Contact Us Here to Learn How You Can Adopt a Child
Welcome to AdoptionVA, where we believe in the power of love, compassion, and family. Our mission is simple yet profound: to connect the hearts of adoptable foster children with loving families across Virginia, creating bright futures and forever families. If you're interested in adopting a foster child, you've come to the right place to learn more.
We understand you need reliable information to make major life decisions, like becoming a parent or expanding your family. Becoming a foster family to adopt a child is significant and enduring.
If you and your family members decide the time is right to adopt a child, we are here to help and support you. If you want to have a conversation about adoption now but aren't ready to make a move, we are here to support your choice. We can also help if you simply want to learn about caring for a child in the foster care system or providing a foster home.
Every day, children and families become part of the U.S. foster care system. Many of these foster youth – infants to teens – will be hoping for loving adoptive families. Right this minute, more than 1,700 Virginia kids are awaiting adoption and the warmth of a loving family.
We help children in foster care find the support they need to heal from the trauma of birth parents in some form of crisis, abuse, or loss. Sometimes, trauma involves child abuse, neglect, or abandonment. Child abuse may take many forms, including mental, sexual, or physical abuse. Neglect may also take many forms, including deserting or withholding needed care.
The foster system hopes each child can safely return to their biological parents. Through experience and circumstances, we realize that will never be the case. While each child's situation is unique, many cases leading to foster care and adoption involve parents who are lost to their kids due to incarceration, addiction, or death.
You might be thinking about adopting a child from foster care because you see how much these vulnerable children need help. Through no action or fault, each child has become part of a care system separate from their birth families. Foster parents care for children temporarily until they can go back home. Foster-to-adopt families get their fostering license to adopt a child and become a forever family. In those cases, birth parents have had their parental rights terminated by the courts.
We believe every foster child deserves a safe, loving, and nurturing home. A bed to sleep in only scratches the surface of a foster child's needs. We work to ensure every child has a home and a family to support them, today and for all of their tomorrows. When you adopt a foster child, you are brightening a child's future and the life of every member of your family.
AdoptionVA is here to answer questions and provide access to the information and resources you need. Rest assured, we promise to answer questions without pressure. We believe you will be ready on your own schedule, not ours. Our team of foster-to-adopt parent advocates will spend whatever time you need to work through your questions.
Our team dedicates itself to helping children in Virginia's foster care system find permanent homes through domestic adoptions. The 1,700 foster kids awaiting adoption in our state are among more than 5,000 Virginia foster youth and almost 400,000 kids in the United States foster care system. International adoptions occur outside the foster care system and, therefore, outside our focus on foster children.
